Summertime and the Living is Outdoors!

With summer in full swing, outdoor dining spaces are getting a workout. Preparing dinner on the grill keeps the heat out of the kitchen, plus it’s easy to throw an extra burger on when friends drop by. The more relaxed mood of outdoor dining is enhanced even more with exterior lighting that lets you linger long after the sun goes down.

Our good friend and neighbor Gregory Daniel needed lighting for his grill and outside pool deck. The lights needed to be mounted to an existing wall which called for a gooseneck arm that would take the shade up higher to allow for better positioning over the grill. The 14″ Goodrich® Union Warehouse Shade is customized with a G14 gooseneck arm. This rugged porcelain enamel light will never fade even in our brilliant Florida sunshine!

Kim and Scott also chose a classic gooseneck barn light for their outdoor deck — the Skylark Shallow Bowl Gooseneck Light. The Skylark is based on 1930s industrial lighting designs and is appealing with its timeless simplicity. This shallow bowl gooseneck light can handle a 200 watt bulb and is rated for indoor or outdoor use. Kim and Scott customized their American-made light with a 14″ shade, Black powder coat finish, and a G22 gooseneck arm.

Live in the city? Just because you don’t have the wide open spaces of the ‘burbs doesn’t mean you can’t have inviting outdoor dining spaces. Check out this rooftop space from our friend John Colaneri of HGTV’s Cousins Undercover. A repurposed shipping container offers a place to gather while three Galvanized Original™ Gooseneck Lights brighten up the dining area.

Meanwhile, out in California, Glenn wanted something different for his grilling spot. Instead of a gooseneck light, Glenn chose the Dual Arm Emblem Sign Light with 10″ shades. He customized these American-made exterior lights with a Marine Grade Industrial Grey finish and installed 100 watt dimmable bulbs.

“I like the rounded shade of the sign light and it works well with the rounded surfaces of the BBQ,” Glenn says. “We get a lot of early morning coastal fog so I chose the Marine Grade finish which I figured would be more durable than a powder coat finish. And the Industrial Grey complements the porcelain tile.”
