It’s mid-January, so at this point you should have moved out of your holiday, sloth-like funk. You’ve enjoyed the company of family, as well as more than enough holiday decorations throughout the neighborhood. With that being said, it’s time to start thinking forward to the future and updating your home for the years to come.

Thinking about the upcoming years may leave you wondering, “What will be popular for that long?” After all, why open up your wallet for something that will be out of style before you even get it home? We’ve done the research for you and put together a few of our favorite pieces seen in stores right now. The 2012 Summer Olympics being held in London are sure to bring people from all over the world with their individual cultures and beliefs blending in one area. This wouldn’t be the first time a sporting event inspired interior designers. Expect to see the re-emergence of bright colors associated with mid-century, retro decor. This trend will last well into the autumn and winter months, then throughout 2013. Get on top of things now with our trend spotting guide, and you’re sure to be the envy of the block.

Retro patterns reminiscent of the Art Deco era from Ocean Drive, South Beach are popping up everywhere. Check out the White Lacquer Headboard along with the brass Sunburst Mirror. Along with the bright and cheery colors in the duvet cover, it wouldn’t be surprising to spot this bedroom all over Pinterest and the blogosphere. A modern floor lamp finishes up the space. The Disco Round Floor Lamp with a yellow spandex shade brings in the last touch of mid-century appeal as well as a functional lighting choice. Since it is a floor lamp, it can be moved throughout your home, transitioning with the design trends you’re expecting in the future.

  1. Thanks for posting this article – We had been searching for many weeks for a a floor lamp that complements our Herman Miller couch – the couch is black and we were looking for a lamp that is minimalistic and has black in it. After 4 weeks of searching we found the Afra floor lamp by the Germany company Anta – the only source we found was an online retailer called http://www.interior-deluxe.com – Even though we usually order though Amazon – this time we ordered from a company based in Florida. For our other projects we need more floor lights and will consider the Doughnut Lamp which you introduced above. Amazon does carry this lamp at a good price.
