Lighting Lingo | How to Decipher Those Icons As You Customize Lighting

One of the comments we hear repeatedly from customers is how much they love being able to customize lighting at Barn Light Electric. Judy, for example, had her eye on a pair of rustic wall sconces for her bathroom makeover (read about the project here). She wanted the sconces to match her wall color, but it’s hard to find quality, American-made sconces in Delphite Blue at the big box store!

Judy was able to customize her new lighting not only with the perfect baby blue finish color but also with a heavy-duty cast guard and ribbed glass to complete the rustic industrial look.

With dozens of customizing options available for the hundreds of pendants, gooseneck lights, sconces, porcelain lights, chandeliers, and more that we manufacture, it can be confusing to sort out the different options, terminology, and icons.

To help sort out the lighting lingo, we have a Glossary & Icons page that answers many of the commonly asked questions.

On every product page, you will see a row of icons that offer helpful information. In the graphic above, these icons are highlighted by the red box and red arrows.

Just hover your mouse over these icons and a box will pop up to explain what the symbol means. For example, the first icon shows that this Barn Light Benjamin Industrial Pendant is handcrafted right here in our own central Florida manufacturing facility.

The last icon in that row is the Returns Box which, when you hover over it, shows that this item can be returned with no restocking fees. But be sure to click on the words Return Policy to read the details about how and when to return products. Like most things in life, there are rules to follow. We request that every customer inspect their lighting immediately upon delivery to make sure everything is included and that no damage occurred during transit.

We also will not accept returns on any light that has been installed. So make sure you love that light and that it will fit in the space before you hire that electrician to install it!
