If you checked out our year-end blog posts on our favorite spaces from 2017, you’ll see that the farmhouse trend made a strong showing. People love the rustic yet modern look of a contemporary farmhouse — lived in, yet lovely, with plenty of texture and character.
Today’s featured customer, Jen from Sylvania, Ohio, built the modern farmhouse of her dreams accented with barn lights inside and out. The home was recently awarded Single Family Home of the Year by the Home Builder’s Association.

If you had to eat the same meal every day for the rest of your life, what would it be? My choice would be well-aged wine and artisanal cheese. And if I lived in Larkspur, California, I would be set for life with the opening of Fisher’s Cheese + Wine.
This new retail shop and cafe offers a warm inviting space with an eclectic menu filled with an amazing variety of cheeses and wines to suit every taste. Owner and head cheesemonger Kiri Fisher wanted to add a sense of nostalgia to her new space.

If you’re a careful reader of our blog, you may remember a mention of Roscoe, New York a few years back. Located two hours north of New York City, this tiny hamlet is home to Prohibition Distillery, a fire hall-turned-distillery with some pretty cool industrial lighting. Roscoe was also home to the Red Rose Motel which operated first as a dance hall, then later as a respite for tourists passing through the area.

At last week’s Design Bloggers Conference in Atlanta, I happened to pick up a copy of Mountain Living magazine and was immediately drawn in by the stunning photos of rustic yet oh-so-elegant homes. As I was flipping through the pages, I landed on a feature of a guesthouse designed to mimic the look and feel of ancient Native American dwellings.
Kim Eisner of Candent Design in Durango, Colorado, served as the interior designer for this home which features a plethora of stacked stone, an earthy palette, and heavy ceiling beams.
