Behind the Scenes | Honoring Our Barn Light Veterans

While we pause every November to honor America’s veterans, we are especially thankful every single day for the veterans who are part of our Barn Light Electric family.

The gentlemen pictured below served our country in the Army, Navy, Air Force, and Marine Corps. They bring a special brand of honor and devotion to duty to their work each day. We are grateful for the contributions and sacrifices they made that allow us to live in this great country and craft our products on American soil.

One of the newest members of our Barn Light family is Zach who leads our new furniture production department. Zach joined the Army at 17 and served eight years in the infantry.

He served in both Afghanistan and Iraq and was wounded in 2009. The injuries Zach sustained led to his retirement in 2012 when he returned to a hero’s welcome in his hometown of Titusville.

As a child, Zach learned the art of woodworking from his father. After he returned home, he started making furniture and developed a loyal following from those who loved the quality of his work and attention to detail. When Barn Light began expanding into furniture, Zach joined the team.

“It’s a fun atmosphere,” he says. “I love the freedom of creating. It’s challenging, but I’ve learned so much since I’ve been here.” Zach has designed a number of pieces for the furniture collection including desks, pieces for the living room and for the kitchen. The pieces are substantial, handcrafted by Zach in the workshop, and are built to last. Several varieties of wood are available as are several finish options.

“I’m pretty creative and I would love to continue growing this line of furniture,” he notes. “We have a great team here and we want to catch up to the lighting end of the business.”

Although Zach currently works out of a temporary space, a larger space is being readied adjacent to the Barn Light manufacturing facility. And while he has traded the sands of the Middle East for sawdust on the Space Coast, he relishes his new direction.

“Any job is what you make of it,” Zach says. “This position was built for me and I can’t wait to see where it’s going.”
